My latest rug the ‘Asagi blue koi’ is the third rug in my koi fish collection. I was inspired by several things when designing this rug.

Firstly blue is a very peaceful and tranquil colour and I wanted to capture that feeling of calm in our living space. There are only two types of blue koi fish that I could choose to paint from and the Asagi blue koi is the one I chose. Secondly the Asagi koi have patterns that are varied and interesting and this works beautifully in design.

And thirdly the Asagi blue koi often move gently with grace and that also inspired me. I needed a larger rug to sit within the living room and I like the idea of the design having that gentle movement without being hectic. The design is also vibrant but not overwhelming.

The rug is hand tufted with New Zealand wool and highlighted with a silk bamboo. The bamboo is soft and shimmers when it catches the light. As mentioned it is a larger rug and measures 3 x 3.5 metres.
