Kinginrin Koi Fish
From the Pond Series
Oil on Coaster Card 2019
This was the third painting from the pond series.
Kinginrin Koi are so called because of their golden or silvery scales. Shining white scales are referred to as ‘Ginrin’ and shining scales within red markings as ‘Kinrin’. I was challenged by the metallic appearance of the scales and wanted to reflect this in the painting. The black background helped accentuate the vibrant colours within the body of the fish and also gave a good base to paint the transparent fins.
