Flying Against the Wind
Oil and dutch silver leaf on board
41 x 54 cm
The New Holland Honey eater is a bird that frequents our garden and so I thought it would be lovely to paint. The bird is painted in oil on a background which has been gilded with dutch silver leaf.
I have not varnished the bird or leaves as I felt that if I did they would get lost in the reflective nature of the silver leaf in the back ground. This almost creates a 3D effect and as you shift around the room the silver leaf reflects the light differently.
